Goraul police shoots young man dead

HAJIPUR: In a mysterious incident, a youth, Shyam Kishore Sharma, son of Jayram Sharma of Karni village under the Dhanarua PS in Patna district, was shot dead by Goraul police on Tuesday while one of his three friends was arrested when they were trying to escape after knocking down a cyclist, Mantu Ram, near Bhagwanpur on the Hajipur-Muzaffarpur road.The two others managed to escape.
According to Vaishali SP H N Deva, the deceased and three others were on way to Muzaffarpur in a Bolero vehicle when Mantu Ram was knocked down. They tried to escape in their vehicle, making villagers inform the Bhagwanpur police about the incident. The Bhagwanpur police, in turn, alerted the Goraul police to check the passing vehicles in order to nab the fleeing Bolero occupants, said the police.
Meanwhile, the deceased and his associates arrived at Goraul. The police waved to them to stop, but they reportedly tried to flee. The Goraul police told mediamen that an unsuccessful attempt was also made to crush the policemen. When the deceased and his associates did not stop, a homeguard jawan shotSharma dead.
According to hospital sources, the deceased had bullet injury in his abdomen which is not possible while escaping on a vehicle. "It''s possible only at a close range and in a static position," said a doctor. Some local people said that the Goraul police shot dead the deceased after he alighted from the Bolero. SP Deva interrogated the arrested person and said only after verification it would be possible to say whether the deceased had a criminal background or not. Till the time of reporting, the SP was at the place of occurrence. Details are still awaited.
